I am a native Floridian, I was born in Florida and have lived here most of my life except for a couple years of my adult life I spent in other states. So I have watched Florida evolve a lot over the last 30+ years. This state is a very different place than it was when I was a kid and most of Florida was cow pastures and orange groves. However, even with all the huge population, demographic changes and building booms I still consider myself pretty lucky that I get to live in Paradise and consider Florida a nice place to live and raise a family.
I realize all of that is a little off topic off the title but I am getting there. My point is that Florida is very much a part of me, it has always been my home and I consider it very personal when someone decides to do such terribly damaging things to something you love and that matters to you. That is where Rick Scott being a crook comes into play.
Everyday I am astounded by what this guy is getting away with and no one is paying attention to it seems. If you follow Rick Scott's legislation and moves you will find there is a money trail leading back to him every time. The people of Florida are being fleeced. He is systematically taking money out of various public services, telling us he is saving us money and then moving that same money into private corporations he some how profits from.
Let's look at a couple specific examples:
State Planes - During his campaign Rick Scott in typical fake tea party fiscal responsibility talking bites told the people of Florida that one of his campaign promises was to get rid of the State's fleet of aircraft. He claimed in this time of economic turmoil people could either take commercial flights or cars. Now while that sentiment may seem logical if you look at it by itself.
When you start to look at all the facts it is pretty clear he is just full of it. So here is what actually happened. When he was elected he did in fact sell the plans on Ebay. Some people even believe this was illegal because he does not have the authority to sell state assets unilaterally. The state's net profit for selling off all of the planes was $535,000 because one was leased and there was a $3.4 million dollar bill due on it.
Here is the real kicker to this story. Although all officials started traveling by car or commercial flights once Scott sold the planes...Rick Scott does not. He has a private jet. Rick Scott flies all over the state in his private jet and guess who he bills for all of the expenses....yep that's right the state! So he sells all of our assets, for a paltry little amount of money....then makes the state pay for commercial airfare and gas and mileage for state officials and himself the guy in the private jet. If you follow the money trail it goes right back into Rick's pocket.
Drug Testing - Rick Scott is drug test happy. He wants to drug test state workers, welfare moms and any other group he thinks he can get away with it. Now one does have to wonder if Rick Scott is so anti-drug why then did he not help law enforcement get what they needed to start shutting the down the pill mills that are very dangerous. We will get to that though. Let's talk urine tests first.
Now just like anything else with Rick Scott if you listen to his reasons...it may seem reasonable at first. I mean I think we can all agree that if you are getting welfare you should not be spending it on drugs. Once we peel back those pesky little onion peels though like everything else with Rick Scott it just stinks.
The Solantic Corporation runs a group of urgent care centers across the state and one of their main sources of income is drug testing. Rick Scott is heavily invested in Solantic. Well he transfered his shares to his wife, but since Florida is a community property state it still means Rick Scott is heavily invested in Solantic no matter whose name is on the paperwork.
So Rick Scott has created two new large pools of people who "must" comply with a drug test on demand. Guess where they go for their drug test?!?! Anyone.....Solantic. This is the most egregious of them all he is literally directly transferring tax payer money to his pockets. And it is disgusting. So wonder why Rick Scott doesn't care about pill mills but loves drug tests? The answer is simple follow the money and all of the pharmaceutical companies in his portfolio.
Education - This is the area that really starts to make my blood boil. This guy is robbing our schools blind and giving the money away to corporations. We are allowing him to prey on our most vulnerable citizens and give money away that is meant to educate our kids to private companies that look at education purely from a for profit standpoint. Rick Scott's recently took $3 Billion Dollars out of the education budget and moved that same money into voucher programs to be used in for profit schools including ones like this that offer a high school diploma for $399 in 8 days. Not to mention that our state has already been down the voucher route and they were deemed unconstitutional.
Now let me ask you a question....if Rick Scott effectively dismantles the education system what do our citizens look like in 10, 20 years? The public education system is far from perfect but we won't make it better by stealing taxpayer's money that is meant to pay for it and giving it away to diploma mills. Now to be honest I don't know where Rick Scott's investment pays off in this one but I know he has one. Every decision he makes is based on his wallet and how much fatter he can make it.
If you are still here with me I am humbled you took the time to read my entire lengthy rant but I had to get this out. The people of Florida need to be outraged. We need to call for a criminal investigation of this guy before he dismantles and profits from something to an extent that we cannot fix it and it effects generations of Floridians.
Write letters, send emails, make phone calls to the Department of Justice telling them Rick Scott is a criminal and needs to be investigated. Someone investigating and charging him with what are clearly crimes in my mind is the only way to stop the wave of damage he is creating.
